EPA bans pesticide, but is it all a ruse?

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) may seek to ban a common pesticide used on citrus fruits, almonds and other crops, according to a new proposal they released on October 30.

Chlorpyrifos is a popular insecticide used on a variety of crops, many of which are American favorites, such as apples, grapes, cherries and broccoli. This new proposal from the EPA would prohibit farmers from using it. Despite having been on the market since 1965, many farmers continue to get sick from chlorpyrifos; traces of it have also been found in waterways. Aside from causing sickness among farmers, EPA officials also worry that overuse of the pesticide might cause insects to develop immunity from it. The new ruling would not come into effect until 2017, at the earliest.

The EPA also issued a written statement that said its current analysis does not show risks from exposure to chlorpyrifos in food. According to Fox News, however, “when those exposures are combined with estimated exposure from drinking water in certain watersheds, ‘EPA cannot conclude that the risk from aggregate exposure meets the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act safety standard.'”

It’s rather amusing that this pesticide has suddenly been making farmers sick for years, just weeks after the WHO declared glyphosate a carcinogen. Where is the ban on Roundup? The EPA is willing to ban chlorpyrifos due to an increase in usage and the potential hazard it may cause.

They know glyphosate causes cancer … yet that requires more studying?

Many people have been praising the EPA due to this recent move. We’re all fools, however, if we can’t see the bigger picture here — that perhaps, this “ban” is just a pacification measure to avoid having to mess with Monsanto.
